Visual analysis method
Formal analysis becomes clearer when observation, visual structure, context and interpretation are kept distinct. This sequence helps students and researchers see where a claim begins, which detail supports it and which part still needs a source or a more cautious conclusion.
Step 01
Begin with figures, objects, setting, material and immediate visual facts before assigning meaning.
Step 02
Connect line, color, value, texture, space and composition to the way attention and emotion are organized.
Step 03
Add relevant context, test interpretations against evidence and revise the central claim when the image does not support it.

Authority pathways
Each worksheet section belongs to a larger visual-analysis discipline. Open the relevant guide when composition, formal vocabulary or symbolic interpretation needs more precision.
Connect observation, formal analysis, context and thesis revision in seven steps.
Use line, shape, form, color, value, texture and space with exact visual evidence.
Analyze focal points, balance, rhythm, scale, movement and depth.
Separate observed details, supported meanings and debated interpretations.
Method
The worksheet separates description, formal analysis, context and interpretation. This makes it easier to identify where a claim comes from and where uncertainty remains.

A strong analysis identifies the artwork, inventories visible content, explains composition and formal relationships, adds relevant historical context and builds an interpretation from specific evidence.
A painting analysis worksheet separates observation, formal analysis, context and interpretation into a repeatable sequence. It helps students support conclusions with details that can be located in the artwork.
